I used Feydra for the first time not that long ago, and it was very helpful. As a front-end developer with no Sitecore experience I was able to start building the front-end in a very short time. I was able to use tools that I was comfortable and familiar with instead of having to puzzle out how things worked in Sitecore which saved a lot of time over the length of the project.
A back-end developer installed Feydra and then explained in about 5 minutes what I had to do in order to work with it. Feydra was setup as a network folder that I could place files in. I could update any file from the running Sitecore instance, place it in the same directory in my Feydra folder, and it would take precedence over the site’s current file at that location. This ‘plug-and-play’ approach made it easier and faster to develop the front-end.
The ability to see template hints within the source of the page is great. Before the template hints were introduced, I would have to work with a Sitecore programmer to help me identify what template/view files I needed to edit. But the template hints help by being able to look at the ‘view-source’ of any page, and locating the HTML comments that specify what view file is being used for all components on a page.
Feydra was also great for testing to see my saved changes running in the actual site with actual data. I liked that I was able to develop the UI of a Sitecore site without having to worry much about the back-end application.
Overall I found Feydra to be useful and beneficial.
